that is sad news, He once came into a lecture I was attending, sat down in his chair and fell asleep about two minutes into the lecture. It was really need to meet him, and also really entertaining to see him pass out because he was bored!
I truly admired his dedication and spectacular artistic work. His work as a dance educator and founder of Dance Theater of Harlem is a great example for all of us in dance who complain of the need for greater diversity in dance. Maybe we should do more about it? Such as creating greater opportunities in dance...Rest in peace Mr. Mitchell.
