Sunday morning analysis!!

On the Sunday morning Skype we gave ourselves the task of giving a definition to what analysis is in terms of the course. Each person on the call is writing a definition below in the Comments. we are hoping you will add your thoughts to keep the conversation going .

Here are the elements we felt important to include when considering what analysis is:

1) Analysis is a construction of meaning through a process of translation and interpretation.
2) It isn't something in itself it is created by elements of the research (the people, data, inquirer...)
3) it is a process
4)  in -> data, analysis processing  -> out.......Data under-goes a transformation.
5) It is a bringing things together (to communicate something)
6) it is to be able to share where you are, to make the inquiry activity describable so you can share your thoughts.
7a) it relates to the future (where things are going for you).
7b) it is always emerging (emerging ideas).

  1. Hi
Thanks for this. This is key for me at the moment as have just finished my draft inquiry so looking back over data and doing more reading. You points 4 & 5 & 6 that really stood out to me.
It's been I interesting to see how data has transformed during triangulation and how things I deemed to be small are actually bigger ideas when they become a reoccurring trend/noticing.
Communication ideas and bringing it all together can seem somewhat overwhelming at times but for me it's better to get something written down and then look back over it after reflection and feedback to then try and reconfigure into a logical piece way of communication... now I'm not even sure that makes sense! Haha.

  2. Hi,
I feel that, the Sunday morning Skype was very insightful and constructive, thank you to everyone on the call! Adesola has already written a great summary of what we talked about, one aspect that I haven't thought about before consciously, was that analysis is an ongoing reflective process, it is fluid and it is not about coming up with a "truth", "the" answer or an end, but that the end is actually just a pause, so you can share what you have been working on with others, it could be seen as a starting point for further inquiries, discussions and explorations.

  3. Analysis: the process of transforming data through translation and interpretation into something communicable, emerging, and future-applicable, which is necessarily affected and/or changed by the participants, researcher, and types of data collected.

Great talking to everyone yesterday! Sounds like the evening skype was really interesting as well.

  4. Hi! My definition of analysis is: It is a neverending process of interpretation and transformation of data for constructing meaning. It is influenced/created by the research elements (sample-background, data etc.) and is "communicable". Inserting ideas results in the emerging of others. This combination connects the specific inquiry with the initiation of further research.
We had a really nice discussion on Sunday, very insightful.

  5. Hi guys sorry I wasn’t able to make the extra Skype session last Sunday. I was in training until late and didn’t realise this extra Skype session was added until last minute. Points 5, 6, 7a and 7b really stood out for me. Thank you for posting and keeping us up to date.
